PowerSchool Information for Families

smileAlerts and Links: this page updated as of 10/29/09
  • Email Notifications: We are checking on the email-notification system in PowerSchool (please continue to log in and check your child's information).
  • Please read the PowerSchool User Guide for specific directions (please note that the features/functions related to registration, balances and calendars are not supported at this time).
  • DO NOT let your browser "remember" your user name/password if it asks; this protects your information!

To learn about PowerSchool, click on a question below:

What is PowerSchool?
PowerSchool is an online application that is closely tied to student grades and attendance.
  • Safe access to your child’s grades and attendance.
  • Current information for staying on top of academic and attendance concerns.
  • Updated as front offices and teachers enter attendance and grade book information!

How Do I Use PowerSchool?

Once you've logged into the system, you will see a screen similar to this one:

power school

By clicking on each of the icons at the top of the screen, you will be able to view current grades and attendance, grade and attendance history, teacher comments and information posted on the School Bulletin.

The Email Notification screen allows for automatic emailing of current grades and attendance to an email address or addresses that you specify.

Please note that the Class Registration, Balance and My Calendars features are not used/supported at this time.

Who can use the PowerSchool service?
PowerSchool is:
  • Available to parents/legal guardians of students at RRHS, CHS, IHS, RRMS, ERMS, LMS and MVMS.  Students at these schools will have their own individual accounts as well.
  • NOT available for Elementary school, RR Cyber Academy or Shining Stars Preschool.  These schools do not use the electronic grade book linked to this parent/student access system.
Will students be able to access their own accounts?

Yes, as an added feature above what we had with ParentConnect, we anticipate setting those up and distributing those logins directly to students within the next few weeks.

Our primary goal at this point is to replace the existing service we had with ParentConnect first.

How do I get access?
To gain access to your student's PowerSchool account (automatically created-no preregistration required), simply visit your child's school (7:30-3:30 on school/in-service days) with a photo ID to pick up your User ID and Password (RRHS, CHS, LMS, ERMS, MVMS, RRMS and IHS only).
  • You can access the PowerSchool website from any computer with secure online access (i.e., the public library, your local senior center, etc.).
  • For the protection of your child’s data, NEVER share your child's user ID or password
  • Be SURE to close the PowerSchool site if you are leaving the computer even for what you think may be a ‘split second’

IF you have children at more than one of these schools, you can pick up the User ID and Password for all of your children at the same time, at any of the schools listed above.

What if I have more than one student (in grades 6-12)?
Be aware that:
  • There is only one user ID and password per student.  It is the responsibility of all parents and legal guardians to coordinate the sharing/protection of these login credentials.
  • Because each child will have a different user ID and password (for security reasons), you will need to log into PowerSchool separately for each child.
I forgot my child's User ID and/or Password!

Visit your child's school again (7:30-3:30 on school/in-service days) with a photo ID to pick up your User ID and Password (RRHS, CHS, LMS, ERMS, MVMS, RRMS and IHS only).

IF you have children at more than one of these schools, you can pick up the User ID and Password for all of your children at the same time, at any of the schools listed above.

Can I change my child's User ID and/or Password?
No; this is not a user feature in PowerSchool.
My child’s information (grades, attendance, etc.) seems wrong!
Who to Contact:
  • Basic student information corrections: Front office of your child's school
  • Attendance: Attendance office of your child's school
  • Assignment and/or Grade Concerns: Please do not contact teachers regarding a grade until you have addressed your concern with your child. This service is not intended to increase the volume of calls/emails to teachers, but to assist you in working with your child first to address concerns before it is too late. Follow up with the teacher as needed afterward.
Can more than one parent/guardian have access to a child's account?
Yes, but please note:
  • Parents must have legal rights to view their child's school records.
  • It is the responsibility of all parents and legal guardians to coordinate the sharing/protection of the login credentials.
  • To set up email notifications to multiple guardians, see the instructions here (pdf).
What if I do not have a computer or internet access in my home?
  • You can access the PowerSchool website from any computer with secure online access (i.e., the public library, your local senior center, etc.).
  • For the protection of your child’s data, NEVER share your child's user ID or password
  • Be SURE to close the PowerSchool site if you are leaving the computer even for what you think may be a ‘split second’
Once I have an active PowerSchool account, do I need to register again each school year?
No, there is no registration that needs to be done in PowerSchool, and we have no plans to reset user ID's or passwords each year.
If my child moves from one middle or high school to another, do I need to do anything to update their account?
No. The application will continue to display your child's data from the school they are enrolled in at the time.
If I live OUT OF TOWN, can I have access to my child's PowerSchool account?
Yes, but please note:
  • Parents must have legal rights to view their child's school records.
  • It is the responsibility of all parents and legal guardians to coordinate the sharing/protection of the login credentials.
  • To set up email notifications to multiple guardians, see the instructions here (pdf).
