RRPS Student Services

The Student Services department oversees a variety of programs and serves different functions across the district. We provide many of the programs that directly address student health and well-being issues.
You can contact the Executive Director of Student Services, Tonna Burgos, by emailing her secretary, Jacque Rasmussen at: 896-0667 Ext. 129.
Parents: The U.S. Department of Labor (The Wage and Hour division) has a site known as Youth Rules (www.youthrules.dol.gov)! The purpose of Youth Rules! is to educate employers in both the public and private sectors of the federal law regarding youth employment as well as to provide education to the youth of America and their families of current federal laws.

The minimum age is 16 years old. New Mexico’s Compulsory School Attendance legislation requires all persons under the age of 18 years old to be enrolled in a public school, private school, home school or state institution. NMSA 1978, § 22-12-2. The student’s parent/guardian is responsible for the student’s school attendance, and a student’s failure to be enrolled and attend school may result in enforcement actions taken against the parent/guardian pursuant to the Compulsory School Attendance laws which may result in monetary fines and/or imprisonment. A student currently enrolled in a District school who is under the age of 18 may be exempt from compulsory school attendance requirements if the parent/guardian gives written, signed permission for the Student to leave school because of a hardship, and the Superintendent, or her designee has approved the hardship request in writing. The Superintendent, or her designee shall review the parent/guardian’s hardship request within a reasonable time after all pages of this Application, as well as any supporting documentation, are submitted to the District’s office. The Superintendent, or her designee, however, is not required to make a decision within a certain period of time. The Superintendent’s, or her designee’s decision to grant or deny the hardship request is within the Superintendent’s, or her designee’s sole discretion, is final, and is not subject to review or appeal. If the Student’s hardship request is approved by the Superintendent, or her designee and the Student is at least 16 years old, the Student may request approval from the Superintendent, or her designee to apply for the general educational development (“GED”) certificate. If the Hardship Application is Approved:The parent will be notified by the Superintendent’s office that the application has been approved. The parent will come to the District Office to sign the Underage Permission Form (UPF). In order to obtain an Underage Permission Form, the following steps are required:
The parent will be notified in writing by the Superintendent or her designee. Home School Students Home-schooled students must verify age at time the Underage Permission Form is issued; therefore, only items 3-5 above apply.
