A+As a public school district, Rio Rancho Public Schools is responsible for graduating students with a solid academic foundation for success.  Academic progress is measured in a number of ways.

"Formative" assessments help teachers adjust instruction in close to real time throughout the school year and determine where students are doing well and where they need additional help.  Formative measures include classroom assignments, projects, and quizzes.

While parents see the results of their child's "formative" work, the public at large is probably more familiar with "summative" measures, which provide a snapshot in time of students' work over the course of a school year and are generally reported as district-wide results or as results for specific schools.  These measures include annual achievement tests like the PARCC, graduation rates, and scores on college entrance exams, especially the widely-accepted ACT.  School ratings (grades) are largely derived from achievement test results and (for high schools) graduation rates. 

The column at left includes links to various types of summative data and the annual district report cards compiled by the NM Public Education Department.  In order to earn a diploma, students are also required to achieve a minimum score on achievement tests including the PARCC, which in this context is referred to as the New Mexico High School Graduation Assessment.  The testing requirements for graduation are also included on this page. 

Rio Rancho schools have some of the highest achievement scores and graduation rates in the state, with graduation rates and ACT scores consistently at or above the national average.  We are proud of our students and of the teachers who help them achieve this success.
